Business Advisory Quality of Earnings Manager - Valuation, Financial Forensics, Litigation (VFL)

Summary of Job Function: At LGA, our primary focus is on our people. As a Manager in LGA's Business Advisory service line, you will work as both a quantitative and qualitative problem solver, a deep and critical thinker, be passionate about overseeing a portfolio of clients, providing high-level advisory and compliance services, and comfortable working on a wide array of complex business challenges and thrives in a fast-paced team environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead comprehensive quality of earnings analyses for clients involved in mergers, acquisitions, or investment transactions.
- Review and evaluate historical financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
- Identify key drivers of revenue, expenses, and EBITDA adjustments to ensure accurate representation of financial performance.
- Conduct detailed due diligence procedures on client financials, accounting policies, and internal controls.
- Collaborate with clients, attorneys, investment bankers, and other advisors during M&A transactions.
- Prepare reports and presentations summarizing findings and highlighting potential risks or opportunities.
- Manage multiple QoE engagements simultaneously, ensuring timelines, budgets, and client expectations are met.
- Coordinate team members' efforts, assign tasks, and review work for accuracy and completeness.
- Maintain project documentation and communicate progress to clients and internal stakeholders.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for clients during QoE engagements.
- Provide insights, recommendations, and strategic guidance based on financial analysis.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients to foster trust and future business opportunities.
- Communicate with clients, including preparing and conducting management interviews
- Researches valuation/accounting/tax issues and applies them to specific engagements
- Understands client/case issues from multiple angles, and opposing perspectives and develop credible conclusions
- Tracks statuses to identify and drive lagging cases/projects forward, additional staff work opportunities, etc.
- Maintains active communication with clients and participate in new business development initiatives
- Remains current with developments in accounting/finance theory and techniques
- Has a willingness and ability to serve as an Engagement Partner on accounts determined by client needs and/or Firm
- Demonstrates solid knowledge of Accounting, Tax, Financial Modelling and Analysis proficiencies and is sought out by peers as a resource in respective specialization(s)
- Demonstrates solid knowledge of Business Writing and Critical Analysis proficiencies and is sought out by peers as a resource in respective specialization(s)
- Demonstrates solid knowledge of Presentation and Oral Delivery Skills proficiencies and is sought out by peers as a resource in respective specialization(s)
- Initiates engagement plan to maximize efficiency and effectiveness on engagement executes engagement plan with limited assistance from Partner
- Provides guidance to client and staff regarding appropriate internal controls. Recognizes deficiencies in controls and recommends solutions to the Partner
- Proactively identifies and communicates issues to clients, provides value added advice; actively seeks specialized knowledge
- Researches and recommends solutions on high risk and complex technical issues. Uses Firm's technology platform to enhance engagement efficiency; develops technology strategy during engagement planning
- Able to master all BAS products and services vs. specializing in a given subset
- Commitment to understand and advance engagements within valuation, financial forensics and quality of earnings advisory services.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accountancy, Marketing, Finance, or a related field
- Master's degree in Accountancy, Marketing, Finance or a plan to pursue preferred
- One or more of the following credentials: certified public accountant (CPA), chartered financial analyst (CFA), preferred 5-10 years' experience in a related field
- 5+ years of experience preparing quality of earnings reports
- 3+ year of experience managing engagement workflow, overseeing and developing team members on valuation and financial forensic concepts and interacting with clients
Required Qualifications
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
- Experience with the CCH Suite of Products (ProSystem fx Tax, Engagement, Document, Portal) is a plus.
- Ability to review and troubleshoot BAS software issues and guide junior staff in usage.
- Comfortable working in a technology-driven, paperless environment.
- Strong organizational skills, detail oriented, and able to manage multiple deadlines.
- Ability to work with a sense of urgency and be flexible in tasks and time while managing your workload with adjustments to your schedule especially during peak workload times in the service line.
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to think outside the box
- Must have an understanding of corporate and personal income tax regulations
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Demonstrated skill in reviewing work prepared by junior team members, identifying errors, and ensuring compliance.
- Ability to mentor and train junior team members, providing constructive feedback.
- Acts as a culture carrier, ensuring alignment with the firm's vision and values.
