We are currently recruiting for a part-time Electrical Engineer to assist the Northeast Fisheries' Science Center's (NEFSC) Ecosystems Survey Branch (ESB).

This will be a part-time position with 376 hours expected, annually. Work will be performed on-site at a Northeast Fisheries Science Center, as well as aboard research vessels in the Northwest Atlantic Ocean, or remotely in coordination with the COR and Project Lead. The contract has a one-year base period and will have up to three (3) 12-month option periods.

Duties:

1. Assist with the preparation and maintenance of the NEFSC's HabCam v4 system, and/or for the development and maintenance of electronic devices as used for fisheries sampling activities.
2. Participate on ESB research cruises when support for electronic fisheries sampling devices is required.
3. Lead the development of electronic fisheries sampling instruments and associated software that are to be deployed during survey operations.
4. Conduct maintenance and installation of electronic fisheries sampling instruments that are to be deployed during survey operations, including fiber-optic connections as required.
5. Test all primary and secondary systems, ensuring that electronics are ready for deployment during survey operations.
6. Prep and configure any interfacing software associated with electronic instruments prior to at-sea data collection.
7. Serve as a member of the scientific party standing watch for up to 12 hours per day.
8. Lead troubleshooting of electronic data acquisition systems.
9. Assist with or lead general shipboard sampling activities, organization, and clean-up.
10. Lead fiber optic termination of towed optical vehicles for communication between sampling equipment and survey vessels.
11. Troubleshoot fiber optic or additional electronic and wiring issues for towed or uncrewed vehicles.
12. Design vehicle machinery and materials required for proper maintenance of advanced technology sampling tools. This can include producing CAD drawings for machine work.

Minimum Qualifications:

• An undergraduate or graduate degree in Ocean Engineering, Electronics engineering, or other related engineering field.
• Experience with the use and maintenance of oceanographic instruments as deployed from research vessels.
• Experience independently leading fiber optic terminations.
• Experience diagnosing and repairing common hardware and electronics problems at sea.
• Significant experience with wiring of marine electronics, including fiber-optics.
• Familiarity with electronic data acquisition systems
• Current MS Office skills.
• Meet OMAO health criteria for sea duty on NOAA vessels. Information located at:
• Capable of working at sea for extended periods (trips range from 5 to 17 consecutive days at sea).
• Must hold a valid driver's license with the ability to operate a Federal motor vehicle.

Salary range is $55 - $65 per hour, dependent upon experience.
